For nearly 20 years, MISSSEY has served Oakland youth impacted by gender-based violence and trafficking — consistent, reliable programs that never stopped, even as other organizations shut down.
Over the last seven years we have transformed into a professional, financially stable, and trusted anchor in the community — with strong financial systems, compliance safeguards, and the confidence of funders and partners who look to MISSSEY for stability and impact.
Our work is survivor-centered, culturally grounded, and youth-focused. And now it needs a permanent home.
The campus
Three buildings. One promise.
In 2024, MISSSEY purchased a permanent property — three buildings on .68 acres in Oakland, already serving as our headquarters for offices and direct services. The campaign completes its transformation:
A place to land
Convert the current residence into a 3-bedroom transitional home for trafficked youth — emergency housing and a first step toward independence.
A place to grow
Transform one building into a two-story community center for services, events, and healing — coordinated care, education, employment, and wellness supports in one place.
A place to lead
Establish a permanent hub for survivor support in Oakland — strengthening prevention, workforce development, and survivor leadership for generations to come.
The name
The Nyoti Center for Restoration and Healing
The Nyoti Center for Restoration and Healing takes its name from Nyoti, meaning “guiding star.” The name reflects MISSSEY’s belief that every young person carries an inherent light that endures, even after profound trauma. Like a guiding star, the Center will be a place of safety, hope, and direction — a space where Black girls, gender-expansive youth, and other young survivors can heal, reclaim their brilliance, and build futures defined not by exploitation, but by possibility.
